the heart transplant,
September 16, 2002
Lee has received a new,
healthy heart! Even as we all began to wonder if the transplant would
ever become a reality, Lee was notified on September 16th that the hospital
had received a donor heart and was ready to perform the surgery.
The operation began that evening about 10:00 and was successfully completed
at 5:00 the next morning. Lee's recovery was dramatic in comparison
to the LVAD implant--the LVAD did it's job in helping Lee improve his health
before the heart transplant.
He is expected to be released
to return home on Tuesday, September 25th.
Now begins the medication
therapy with the anti-rejection drugs that will allow Lee to keep this
healthy heart. Your continued support is needed to help Lee maintain
his new lease on life.
